Global Terrorism & International Hypocrisy

The entire world was shocked after the news of a horrific terror attack at a mosque of New Zealand got circulated. The modern era has witnessed numerous terrorist attack but this incident was quite unique. Until now almost all terror acts were more or less related to global Islamic jihad but New Zealand massacre has changed the entire optics of terrorism. This time a mosque in Newzealand’s Christ Church was targeted by a person who linked the act with his own hate for immigration & entire global media acknowledged this as a byproduct of Islamophobia.

With all the shrill around the Christchurch attack, India still dwells in its own dilemma of counter-terrorism. The recent Pulwama attacks & Indias response to it fetched a mixed result. The day before yesterday, UNSC withheld the motion which intended to declare Masood Azhar as a global terrorist after China used its veto against it. Although India was able to gather international support, still we should worry about the hypocritical response from the global community & world media about India’s fight against terrorism.

The prominent news daily ‘The Newyork Times’ published an article describing the Pulwama attack as a mere explosion in a conflict zone. India’s own media house appeared divided on what should have been India’s response aftermath the attack. Certain Indian opposition parties even demanded noble peace prize for Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan. Politics overtook the counter-terrorism mission & India suffered a huge setback in its Global postering. But the situation of New Zealand is pole apart from India. The entire international community stands in full solidarity with the Kiwi Government & media reporting clearly indicates the huge difference between the global stature of New Zealand & India.

It’s high time for us to realize the practical realities & act accordingly. Indian political leadership & opposition should understand the importance of global optics & maturely handle such situations.Indian diplomacy would be able to fetch results if it’s able to communicate with others about its own unique position on terrorism.

As a rising economic power, India must flex its muscle in geopolitics arena & must shed its old, cozy & soft image. Its rightly said by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu-‘You can only end a negotiation for peace if you begin it’
